Driver blows through red light, injured when struck by dump truck

By Medicine Hat News on October 4, 2019.

A dump truck T-boned a Chevrolet Equinox Thursday morning, sending the car’s driver to the hospital with injuries.

Police say at 10:09 a.m. the truck was travelling westbound on Sixth Street SE, proceeding on a green light straight through the intersection toward Sixth Street SW at Division Avenue.

At the same time, the Equinox was driving southbound through a red light on Division Avenue S, neglecting to stop for the westbound truck.

As a result, the entire driver’s side of the Equinox came into contact with the truck.

The car’s airbags were deployed and its driver was taken to Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with “undetermined” injuries, according to a Medicine Hat Police news release.

The driver of the truck and other occupants of the Equinox walked away unscathed, although $20,000 in damage resulted from the collision.

The hospitalized driver has been charged with failure to stop at a red light.
