Alexis Marshall and Torrin Knights plant some bulbs in 2018 at a Daffodil Project planting event.

The Daffodil Project is looking for volunteers to help plant 20,000 bulbs at Len Mitzel Meadow on Oct. 5.

Due to the weather the planting date had to be changed and not all the volunteers are available next Saturday.

There are opportunities for volunteers regardless of age or ability. Some enjoy getting down and placing the bulbs in the furrows that have already been made with machinery and others prefer to stand and use rakes to pull the soil on top of the bulbs. There are also tasks such as filling buckets with the bulbs from the crates.

We also need a small group of young men willing to operate the ditch witches to make the furrows. Those operating the ditch witches start at 8:30 a.m. while other volunteers begin at 9:30 a.m.

Based on planting 20,000 bulbs at Pierce Place recently planting should be complete between noon and 1 p.m.

If you can help please let us know so we can ensure we have enough people participating.

Adair Prouty donated 20,000 bulbs to honour the late Len Mitzel former MLA for Cypress Medicine Hat.
