The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program is hosting its annual Fall Festival Sunday with the hopes of getting Hatters outdoors and spending time with their families.

The event begins at 11 a.m. and runs until 3:30 p.m. at Police Point Park and it is offering a number of fun activities for people to take part in.

“We want people to come out and enjoy the park,” said park interpreter Marty Drut. “The leaves have started to change and it’s really beautiful here right now.

“People can come out and enjoy what the park has to offer.”

The main event of the afternoon will be letterboxing, which Drut describes as a low-tech version of geocaching. The park is offering different levels for beginners and experts with letterboxing – it is also offering prizes to people who complete the exercise.

There will be hotdogs for sale and an open fire to roast them on.

“Everyone loves the fire,” said Drut. “We’ll also have our Story Walk

Weekend weather forecasts are calling for winter-like conditions, but Drut says that won’t stop the event from running.

“We hold a Family Day event every year in February and people show up and have a great time,” he said. “If people are feeling up to it, we hope to see them out here.”
