Cypress County wind project has yet to be approved by utility regulators

A major wind energy project proposed to be built in Cypress County is entering the formal application stage, and has not yet been approved by provincial utility regulators.

Incorrect information was included in a story that appeared in Wednesday’s edition .

The “Cypress Wind” renewable power facility proposed by EDF Renewables would involve erecting 48 turbines, relating infrastructure and access roads, as well as a substation about 20 kilometres southeast of Medicine Hat.

It was formally proposed to the Alberta Utility Commission this month, and the AUC announced Wednesday it is moving into a period for public feedback.

The AUC now accepting applications to parties seeking intervenor status until Oct. 21. Written submissions are due on Oct. 23.
