Shaunavon to get $750K in gov’t funds for potable water system upgrade

The town of Shaunavon will receive about $750,000 in federal and provincial funding to upgrade its potable water systems, it was announced Thursday.

The project is the latest in a host of announcements this week from Ottawa and Saskatchewan relating to that province’s portion of federal New Building fund and Investing in Canada plan.

In the southwest Saskatchewan town, $410,000 of federal funds and $342,000 of provincial money will go toward new disinfecting apparatus in four water wells, reworking the wells and new pump houses. Local government’s share of the budget is is estimated at $273,000.

In total, $34 million in grants were announced Thursday in La Ronge by Federal Fisheries Minister Johnathon Wilkenson and Todd Goudy, the provincial secretary, toward 10 projects.

Grants announced Wednesday included close to $16 million to develop a regional potable water system surrounding Capri, Sask, north of Gull Lake.
