A local author has published the second part of a novella series she launched last year.

Pam Robertson, who moved to the Hat within the past year, released Border Shock on Thursday, which is the second instalment in her Morgan Winfeld series.

“It’s always exciting to release something new,” Robertson said. “Any time you can release something new, there’s a lot of emotions that are going on.

“I spoke to a lot of readers on what they wanted from the second book in the series – their feedback definitely helped shape things.”

The series revolves around Canadian spy Morgan Winfeld, who is in her mid-40s, drinks a lot, works hard and is “rough around the edges,” according to Robertson.

“Border Shock works with themes taken out of the news,” said Robertson. “Our protagonist is in New York working on a cyber crime file that is emotionally intense and she’s pulled away from that file to investigate a new drug that has just hit the streets.

“I think the story comes off as very real because of all of the issues in our headlines today.”

Robertson released the first part of the series last year and says she has started the third instalment already.

“Because they’re all connected I definitely work on more than one at a time,” she said. “There will be three to five books in this series and I think it will come down to what the readers ask for.”

Robertson says she does a lot of her writing from home and that there is no set timeline for her next release.

This is the third novel-length book Robertson has published and she has had chapters in a number of other collections.
