Fans of old cars and classic rock are in for a treat this weekend as Cars and Guitars returns to Medicine Hat.

Things get started Friday evening with a classic car cruise from 5-8 p.m. through downtown and the drivers will be making their way to the Canalta Centre. After the cruise, The Hip Show will take the stage outside the Canalta Centre.

“The cruise is a lot of fun and it’s free for everyone,” said marketing and sales manager Lorelle Halderman. “Local band Cold Shot is also going to be performing before The Hip Show – they’re a popular local banding coming out of retirement for this show.

“Doors are at 7 p.m. and the show is at 8 p.m.”

Things then pick up Saturday morning with a free classic car show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Canalta Centre parking lot.

“Saturday is a huge day,” said Halderman. “The show is free, as always, and this is a great event for families to check out and to have fun with.

“There’s food trucks, a market, a petting zoo and a lot more going on with the car show.”

Also starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday is a vocal talent show with a recording contract on the line.

“We have registrants from 10 to 62 years old,” said Halderman. “That’s going to be a really fun event this year and we’re expecting to see some great talent.

“Stir Studio is giving away a $1,500 recording session and Progression’s Music will be awarding instruments during the contest.”

Saturday’s night show will feature Bad Moon Riders, a CCR tribute band, and Eagle Eyes, an Eagles tribute band.

Tickets for the weekend’s shows are $40 for a pass and can be found on http://www.ticketmaster.ca
