Police Point Park is hosting a Pollinators in our Backyard event this weekend with the hopes of spreading education and awareness on the importance of the world’s pollinators.

The event is running Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Nature Centre and is free for everyone.

“The pollinator display will be up here all weekend,” said park interpreter Elijah Rainville. “I’ll be here with one other park interpreter and we’ll be able to answer any questions people have about the display or pollinators in general.

“We just want this to be informative about our native pollinators and to allow people to be a bit more aware of them.”

On top of the educational side of things, there is also a rock-painting event open for people of all ages.

“Of course it’s fun for kids but I think anyone who likes painting will like this,” said Rainville. “I know the Medicine Hat Rocks Facebook group is really popular right now, so if people want to hide these in any of the city’s parks – they should.

“We just want to get people outside and active and this is one way people enjoy that.”
