The national company that runs Medicine Hat Rib Fest is clarifying that it’s an entirely separate event from Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Ribs for Kids.
Rib Fest is scheduled to occur Sept. 6-8, while the BBBS fundraiser is happening Aug. 9-11.
Rib Fest Canada’s Les Gange told the News that although Rib Fest was affiliated with BBBS in its inaugural 2017 event, they have since parted ways and are each hosting their own rib-tasting event.
“We continue to hear from people who thought our event was Ribs for Kids and I think that’s sort of an unfair decision that they’re making,” said Gagne.
“We had nothing necessarily against them leaving and going on to form their own event, but it’s a bit in bad faith to suggest to people that they are the Medicine Hat Rib Fest.”
He said he particularly takes issue with BBBS billing its event as the third annual iteration, when it’s in fact the inaugural.
“It’s just adding to the confusion and I just don’t think they should be taking that sort of approach,” Gagne said.
