Cypress County firefighters battled two wildfires Wednesday, according to two consecutive posts on their Facebook page made around 7 p.m. One blaze occurred north of Highway 1 and west of Highway 884, near CFB Suffield, burning 3-4 kilometres north of Highway 1 and four km west of the 884. CFB Suffield’s Facebook page said its firefighters were assisting Cypress County’s in battling the blaze. According to that post, the wildfire started around 4 p.m. By 7:50 p.m., the page said the fire was extinguished. The other fire occurred near Walsh — eight km south of Highway 1 and along the east side of Graburn Road — moving towards the Cypress County and Saskatchewan border. Cypress County Emergency and Fire Services attended to both scenes, where visibility was limited due to the combination of smoke and high wind velocities. 7
