Roughly 270 people took part in the sixth annual Poker Run held by the Riders for HALO.

“It was a fantastic day,” said Riders for HALO member Lou-Wanda Whaley.

The day started bright and early in Irvine where the committee and volunteers gather before 8 a.m. to set up tables and to get things ready for the ride. Breakfast is also served to riders in Irvine.

The group makes its way to Eagle Valley, then Richmound for the annual Show and Shine. After Richmound the riders went to Schuler for the fire departments annual HALO function. The group then made a stop in Dunmore before landing at Ralph’s for the night.

In the group’s first year it raised $810 — last year it managed to raise more than $120,000 for HALO — a mark it is hoping to surpass this year.

“We would love to beat that $120,000 this year,” said Whaley. “Just about all of us know someone who has used HALO before and we know how important they are to our community.

“We hear so many stories about HALO making an impact on the lives of people in the area — it’s a great cause to give to.”
