Saamis Immigration hosting training session to learn more about refugees

By Medicine Hat News on May 22, 2019.

Saamis Immigration is hosting a professional development training opportunity next week for those looking to learn more about refugees.

“Passages” is an interactive training program designed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, focusing on the causes people leave their countries and the challenges they face in departing their country of origin and integrating into their new home.

Participants will learn about the specific, concrete problems facing refugees, gain an enhance understanding of what forces people to flee their homes, think about a possible solution to matters of integration within the asylum country and repatriation to their country of origin, as well as adopting a more welcoming attitude toward refugees.

The training takes place May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Fifth Avenue United Church and is open to anyone interested in learning more about the refugee experience.

The cost is $10 cash or cheque.

Space is limited, so those looking to register should contact Elizabeth Thompson at 403-504-1188 ext. 112, elizabeth@saamisimmigration.ca, or dropping by the Saamis office at 659 Third St. SE.
