Mother Teresa hosting open house to provide information on upcoming STREAM program

Mother Teresa School is hosting an open house Monday to inform parents about its STREAM programming that goes into effect in September. Attendees will have an opportunity to interact with teachers and students, who will present on the benefits of the program. Mother Teresa is the first school in southeastern Alberta to implement STREAM, which stands for Science, Technology, Reading and religion, Engineering, Arts and humanities and Math. This is a concept-based program that allows students to illustrate what they learned in one subject by means of another. “For example, if you’re a student who’s more science-based or thought better through the arts, the teacher would give you an opportunity to show what you know through the arts,” principal Erika Bodnaruk explained to the News when the program was announced at the beginning of April. Students will still be able to demonstrate their learning through traditional means if that’s what works for them. The open house will have two sessions – one at 6 p.m. and the other at 7 p.m. The first part will be a 15-minute presentation in the school library outlining what STREAM is and then for the next 40 minutes attendees will tour the four STREAM classrooms before listening to student presentations. 9-8
