Hunting licences just got a little harder to get in SW Sask.

Hunters and anglers will no longer be able to purchase their Saskatchewan licences in person in Leader, Maple Creek or Shaunavon, that provincial government announced Friday.

Field offices in those locations are among 19 in the province that will see staff reductions and an end to walk-in service to the public.

Eighteen part-time and full-time workers will lose their jobs.

Conservation officers will continue to work at the offices, but they won’t be open to the public.

The government says people who need services such as buying hunting and fishing licenses can do it online.

Last year, more than 409,000 hunting and angling licences were sold in the province, with about two per cent issued at the 19 offices affected by the change.

Kindersley and Outlook are also among the locations affected. Others are in Assiniboia, Big River, Buffalo Narrows, Estevan, Humboldt, Ile-a-la-Crosse, Lloydminster, Moose Jaw, Pinehouse, Preeceville, Southend, Spiritwood, Wadena and Weyburn.
