Pair of schools put in hold and secure by police, no explanation by press time

Herald and Alexandra schools placed their buildings in a hold and secure Wednesday afternoon upon request from the Medicine Hat Police Service.

During a hold and secure nobody is allowed to enter or exit the building, but all activity within the building continues as normal.

The hold and secure was called around noon at Herald and was lifted by 2:45 p.m., while the one at Alexandra was called around noon and lifted by 2:20 p.m.

A post on Herald’s Facebook page called the move “a preventative measure against an outside emergency.”

The MHPS didn’t respond by press time to request for comment on the nature of the emergency.
