Minor ammonia leak detected at CF Industries

Medicine Hat Fire Service responded to a call regarding an ammonia leak at CF Industries in Medicine Hat. on Wednesday morning, the company has confirmed.

The nitrogen complex detected a minor leak in one of the ammonia plants, said Wayne Steinke engineering manager CF Industries. The leak was contained quickly and there were no injuries.

It was an odour that alerted plant operators to the leak, said Steinke. The plant was closed Wednesday for an investigation to determine the cause of the leak and do any necessary repairs.
