Students from Medicine Hat College got an opportunity to pitch ideas Monday at Medicine Hat Brewing Company to a panel of local entrepreneurs.
Three students got in front of four judges at the brewery to pitch business ideas from a range of industries to get important feedback.
“We hold these four times throughout the school year and this is the second year of us running these events,” said organizer Christie Wilson. “The three students will be pitching their ideas to a group of local professionals and we’re looking forward to the event.”
The event will be in front of a sold-out crowd and will teach the students a number of important life and business skills.
“The students get great feedback and can make some really important connections the night of the event,” said Wilson. “The students also have a chance to win a bit of startup money from the event as well.
“We know public speaking is a very important skill so getting the students out and in front of an audience is great for them and it helps test them to see if they’re able to really articulate their ideas to a panel of professionals.”
The panel of judges at Monday’s event was Medicine Hat Brewing Company’s Warren Vancuren, RBC’s Breanne Williams, Chris Deering of Deerview Meats and Mayor Ted Clugston.
Wilson says the group has had ejoyed holding the events at the Brewing Company.
“It’s a really great atmosphere,” she said. “We’ve had a number of students come back to make more pitches after taking part in previous events.
“These really help build confidence and the feedback they get really helps shape ideas to help the students make them better.”
