Though it was held in a new location and had a slightly altered name this year — the annual Santa Claus Fund Charity Auction had another strong year of fundraising.
“It was a magical evening,” said Santa Claus Fund executive director Deanna Doerksen. “We’re really happy with how things went this year.”
The auction was held at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede for the first time in its history but was still able to bring in roughly $30,000 for the Santa Claus Fund.
“Every auction we hold just goes fabulous,” said Cypress Club manager Lorraine Schmaltz. “No matter where we hold it, how many gifts we have or how many people are there — they all go very well.
“The new venue worked very well,” said Doerksen. “I think everything came together with this right from the start and we’re already thinking about future years.”
There were a number of familiar faces in the crowed, who have followed the auction since its inception, and a number of new faces attending the auction for the first time.
“Seeing our regular crowed every year is amazing and it’s also such a great feeling to see new faces,” said Schmaltz. “I think there was a lot of people who stopped by for the first time to check it out and see what was going on.
“We’re thankful for everyone who supports the auction.”
Schmaltz says the auction will likely be on Dec. 5 or 12 next year and that the group is looking forward to making it happen for yet another season.
“We just want to say a big thank you to everyone who helps make this happen every year,” she said. “There’s so many people and businesses in the community that work to make this event as special as it is.”
