Redcliff woman among arrested in stolen goods bust

A Redcliff woman and four others are facing charges after RCMP in Vulcan say they broke up a stolen goods operation that included thefts from Medicine Hat, Redcliff, Brooks and numerous oil well sites.

Authorities state Mounties from Nanton and Vulcan searched a rural property on Nov. 13 and arrested five people after allegedly finding weapons, a drug-growing operation, stolen all-terrain vehicles and a large amount of copper wire.

The three men and two women were scheduled to appear in Lethbridge Provincial court on Friday.

Five firearms, three ATVS, an ATV trailer were seized, along with nearly one kilogram of marijuana.

Shaun Laraine Matchett, 22, of Redcliff, faces four counts of theft over $5,000 among 14 charges in total, including possession of a prohibited weapon.

Two other men, Brian Christopher Aske, 40, and Ross Brian James, 37, both of no-fixed-address, face similar charges.

Vulcan residents Danny Robert Longbotham, 47, and Shannon Lynn Murray, 37, also face theft charges.

The RCMP is asking for anyone with information related to these thefts to contact the Vulcan RCMP detachment a 403-485-2397or local police.
