A local man facing 10 counts of sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual interference and invitation to sexual touching over an eight-month period pled not guilty to all charges Thursday at Medicine Hat Provincial Court.

Scott David Hansford, 35, has a trial set for April 24, 2019, which is slated to take the full day and will be heard by a provincial court judge alone.

According to court documents, it’s alleged that between December 2017 and February 2018 in Medicine Hat, Hansford sexually assaulted, inappropriately touched and urged someone under 16 years of age to touch his genitals.

The alleged inappropriate touching falls under the category of sexual interference in Canada’s Criminal Code, while urging a minor to touch his genitals is considered sexual exploitation.

He also allegedly committed sexual interference, sexually assaulted, sexually exploited and invited the same victim, who cannot be named due to a publication ban on the identity of minors, to touch him sexually in Medicine Hat from May 1-20, 2018 .

From July 1-21, he allegedly sexually exploited, assaulted and interfered with the alleged victim, but this time in Cypress County.

Hansford was charged with these crimes Oct. 12.
