A local group of mothers with a baby that required care in the neo-natal intensive care unit at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, is fundraising in support of it.

The campaign will also help to create awareness of the many families who have a baby in the NICU, said Kristine Russell, one of the organizers.

In addition to placing pickle jars at a number of business locations to make it convenient for the public to make cash donations, they also held a “dance-off” Tuesday morning and asked spectators to make donations to the cause.

Exactly how much has been raised is not clear yet because donations are still coming in, including some online, said Russell. The original goal was to collect $1,000 but that number has already been surpassed.
