Three charged with assault, robbery, unlawful confinement

Three people from Medicine Hat are facing assault, robbery and unlawful confinement charges following an incident last week.

According to police, on the night of Oct. 24 a female went to a house in the city’s southeast where two females assaulted her with a blunt object and took her property. She was held throughout the night in an extortion attempt. She was able to escape early the next morning and call police.

The victim and the three accused are known to each other and police believe the incident is drug related.

Amanda Kaye, 36, is charged with robbery, unlawful confinement, extortion, assault with a weapon and failing to comply with court ordered release conditions from previous charges.

Theresa Babitzke, 53, is charged with robbery, unlawful confinement, extortion, assault with a weapon, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of stolen property.

Matthew Babitzke, 29, is charged with robbery, unlawful confinement and possession of stolen property.

All three are scheduled to appear in court Oct. 30.
