One of three men arrested Oct. 12 for trafficking cocaine appeared Tuesday at Medicine Hat Provincial Court, where he faces 11 charges.
Kris David Simons faces five counts of trafficking controlled substances, two counts each of possessing property obtained through crime and failure to comply with the terms of probation, as well as one charge each of possession for purposes of trafficking and unauthorized possession of a firearm
His matters were adjourned to Oct. 25.
Robbery suspect sets trial, pleads guilty to separate matters
One of the suspects in a masked robbery of a local Indian restaurant on Oct. 5 set a trial for unrelated charges, while having the robbery-related matters adjourned.
Jayson Ryan Arndt, 30, pled not guilty to trafficking property obtained through crime, possessing property obtained through crime, breaching conditions of release, failure to comply with probation orders and possessing counterfeit currency.
His trial, which will be heard by judge only, is scheduled for Feb. 4, with 300 minutes booked for it.
“I doubt very much you’ll need five hours,” said Judge Jerry LeGrandeur.
The Crown has six witnesses it will be calling to testify, as well as “some Internet information.”
The five charges related to the restaurant robbery — robbery, wearing a disguise while committing a crime, resisting a peace officer, breaching conditions of release and failure to comply with the terms of probation — were adjourned to Oct. 23, so he can have time to obtain counsel.
He also pled guilty to separate charges of shoplifting under $5,000 and possessing property obtained through crime, for which he was fined a total of $350.
