HIV Community Link is moving its Cares Centre, currently located on Second Street SE near the Esplanade, to Fourth Street SE downtown.

This is not the location of the supervised consumption site but rather a temporary location to continue to offer support programs and needle exchange for those who use drugs and are at higher risk of HIV and hepatitis C.

“This temporary location will not house supervised consumption services, but will ensure continuity of our current services for our clients that we have been serving for over a decade,” reads a statement released Tuesday.

HIV Community Link will continue to work with community partners and stakeholders to find a location for supervised consumption services planned for Medicine Hat in response to the drug crisis that is impacting this community, a press release stated.

The move, necessitated by the owner selling the property on Second Street, will take place on Friday with the new office at 641 Fourth St. SE officially open Oct. 1.
