The Medicine Hat Moose Lodge No. 1073 hosted its annual roast beef dinner fundraiser Friday, handing $42,000 out to 15 community groups.

Treasurer and past president Don Collins says the Moose has been at its current location for about three years, although the organization has been in the Hat since 1912.

“We’re a fundraising organization,” said Collins. “We raise funds to give to schools, sports groups, hospitals, colleges, whatever.”

He estimates the group has given away about $250,000 since moving to its new location.

Due to a slower year, the local club is unable to give away as much as it would like to.

“The more people that come and donate, help and participate in the things we do, the more we can give back to the community,” Collins said.

Among recipients were Crescent Heights High School, the local minor hockey league, HALO air ambulance, Notre Dame Academy, Medicine Hat College and Elm Street School.

The funds for Elm Street will go toward its nutrition program and were provided by the provincial Order of the Moose.
