APEX Southeast Alberta is hosting a series of lectures at Medicine Hat College, where inquiring minds can learn about cryptocurrency, cannabis and renewable energy.

“Emerging Industries and the Future of Work” is composed of three seminars throughout the autumn.

Each event will follow a similar format, with a keynote speaker addressing the future of work, while industry experts discuss specific opportunities in southeast Alberta.

The cryptocurrency talk, with an emphasis on the local Hut 8 Mining Corp, is scheduled for Sept. 20.

An Oct. 25 lecture will focus on cannabis production and the opportunities at the new Aurora Cannabis facility opening in the Hat.

The renewable energy talk is scheduled for Nov. 29.

Sean Blewett of Community Futures Entre-Corp, one of APEX’s three partner groups, says the purpose of the series is to make the public aware of local job opportunities in emerging industries.

“Not only does our future hold more jobs, we can expect to see different types of work,” said Blewett.

“At the same time, the attitudes and expectations of employees and employers alike are undergoing changes.

“With all this change on the horizon, we feel this is an excellent time to provide opportunities for community members to learn about the future of work.”
