The Holts and the Campbells have made their way into the heart of Saskatchewan and are continuing on their journey in their 1920s vehicles to Hague, Sask.
Bart and Lisa Campbell left Tuesday alongside Fred and Teri Holt and are slowly working their way to Hague with no money in their pockets, no credit cards and with no planned place to stop each night.
“It’s been amazing so far,” Bart said. “The cars were running great the first day and we made it to the Richmound turnoff, and Fred and Teri’s son actually works up there so he filled our tanks for us.
“We’ve been slowly making our way through small towns and cities just hoping we can find some work to get our tanks full.”
Bart isn’t sure when the team will make it to Hague but says everyone is happy with the trip so far.
“We’re just hoping to make it there with no big issues,” he said. “We’ve been lucky so far with finding work on a farm, we’ve had some meals given to us and we’ve had a place to stay at night — we’re not asking for anything more than that.
“Right now (Thursday) we’re both having our first minor vehicle issues and we’re getting them fixed. Fred is actually working the day in an auto shop sanding a car down — the owner said he’d fill our tanks if we did some work for him.”
Bart says the couples have been blown away by the support.
“We expected people to want to help out because people from Saskatchewan are amazing, but I don’t think any of us expected the level of support and interest we’re getting,” he said. “We thought a lot of people would be hearing about is through Facebook but pretty much everything has been word of mouth — people are just hearing about us and wanting to help out.
“We’re so thankful for everyone who is helping out along the way.”
