Car becomes lodged in house near Coaldale

A Coaldale driver is in hospital and residents in the house are lucky to be safe after a vehicle collided with a house on Highway 512 near Readymade on Aug. 30, 2018.

RCMP say a mother and child are lucky to be safe after a car swerved off a highway near Coaldale and broadsided their home on Thursday afternoon.

The vehicle, a grey 2005 Pontiac Vibe was being driving by a 70-year-old female on Highway 512 when if left the roadway just after noon. It passed through a ditch, the home’s porch and lodged itself in the outside wall of a child’s bedroom.

Members of the family were in another part of the house at the time. Firefighters from Coaldale extracted the driver and sent her to Lethbridge hospital for “serious, but not deemed life threatening injuries.”

The car remained in the house while the structural integrity of the building was assessed, but was removed later in the afternoon.

The Coaldale RCMP are investigating and would like to speak with any witnessed the accident or the vehicle prior to the accident. Anyone with information should contact the Coaldale RCMP rural detachment at 403-329-5080 or the municipal detachment at 403-345-5552 (municipal detachment).
