There’s no place like home for Christie Kurpjuweit.

The local singer and songwriter was born and raised in the Hat, and has a show today at 7 p.m. at Cafe Verve where she will play a number of original and cover songs.

“It’s going to be a really fun night with a good mix of music,” she said. “I’ll be playing a number of covers and originals and it’s going to be a really nice acoustic sound.

“I’d say I have a bit of a soulful voice and I’m hoping it’s just a really chill, mellow night that’s enjoyable and relaxing for everyone who comes out.”

Kurpjuweit is a mother of four and spends the majority of her time with her family, singing or playing the guitar. She says the event will be great for anyone.

“The mix of songs is really from Johnny Cash to a Rihanna so there’s going to be something for everyone,” she said. “I like to take these songs and put my own twist on it them.

“During the set, in between songs, I’ll be telling bits about myself to the crowd — I like the shows to feel personal.”

The show has a $10 cover fee, and she says music is what she loves doing.

“I started learning the guitar at 16 and it just felt right,” she said. “I started singing and playing at the same time and eventually play an open mic — everything since then has been really fun for me.”
