A busy connection between the South Hill and the south end of town was closed Monday night as crews began repaving Old Cemetery Road.
The route, connecting Division Avenue S. and Kipling Street, will be shut for workers until at least Wednesday after milling began over the weekend.
Motorists will be diverted along 12th Street SE to Third Avenue in the meantime.
Construction on Division Avenue N. will also cause a detour for motorists in Crescent Heights. At the intersection with Eighth Street, crews are working to replace water and sanitary sewer lines mains.
Traffic coming north up Altawana Hill is being diverted onto Seventh Street NE, then along Tweed Avenue to Mitchell Crescent before rejoining Division.
Local access to business and residences on Eighth Street is not affected. Construction will eventually move to the residential 100 block of Eighth Street NE.
