School board trustees from across the province will be in the Hat later this week as part of the Public School Association of Alberta’s annual summer meeting.

“We hold this meeting every year in mid-August,” said Medicine Hat Public School Division 76 chair Rick Massini. “Every year this event is hosted by a different jurisdiction somewhere in the province, and it gives us, the trustees, a chance to see the kind of programming and facilities that these jurisdictions have for their schools.

“This meeting also helps us learn what kind of challenges they when serving these kids.”

The meeting runs from Wednesday to Saturday, and Massini believes this was the right year for the Hat to host.

“First of all, I love Medicine Hat and I’m pretty proud of this city, so any chance I can get to show it off I’ll happily take it,” he said. “As far as our district is concerned, we’ve had a few new schools built in the last couple years as well as the huge modernization of Medicine Hat High school.

“The design and thought process that went into these new schools and into Hat High is just exceptional and I wanted trustees from across the province to have the opportunity to see that.”

Massini says the local board wanted to give other trustees a look at local community classroom projects.

“These projects are another thing I wanted to showcase,” he said. “On Thursday, after we tour Hat High, we’re heading over to Police Point Interpretive Centre and then Medalta Potteries — both of these are community classrooms and we hope to give the trustees a first-hand look at the student experience.”
