Highway 36 collision near Taber leaves one dead, one in hospital

A section on Highway 36 north of Taber was closed for hours Friday as emergency crews tended to a serious collision.

Shortly after 6:40 a.m. on Friday, Taber/Vauxhall RCMP and Municipal District of Taber Fire Department, Community Peace Officers, and EMS attended to the scene of a two-vehicle collision approximately 6 km north of Taber.

An SUV travelling northbound on Highway 36 collided with a southbound pickup truck.

The male driver of the truck was initially airlifted from the scene by HALO due to life threatening injuries, but was pronounced deceased en route to hospital.

The driver of the SUV was transported to hospital in Lethbridge with serious injuries.

The section of Highway 36 has since reopened.

A collision analyst attended the scene. All contributing factors into this collision are being considered and the investigation is ongoing.
