A five-day trial has been set for March 2019, for a man accused of starting a house fire that sent one woman to hospital with extensive burns.

After waiving a preliminary hearing last month, the trial date for the accused was set down Friday at the Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench arraignment day, and will run starting March 18, 2019.

Chad Stadnicki, 42, faces charges of arson and assault causing bodily harm following a fire at a house on the 1100 block of Bridge Street in the Flats last October.

The residence sustained extensive damage, which the fire department estimated at $100,000, while a 32-year-old victim sustained burns to half her body.
