The final phase of road reconstruction on South Railway Street is expected to be complete by the end of August.

While construction is taking place, one section accommodates traffic only in one direction but it will be two-way traffic when it is all complete, says Sandeep Pareek, project manager with the municipal works department.

As sections of the road are completed it may look as though the road is narrower, but they are all according to industry standards.

“There are additional turning lanes at some of the intersections as well as a now established boulevard and multi-purpose trail. The provision of these lanes and boulevard/trail can create the perception of lane narrowing,” said Pareek. “As part of the project scope we will be installing lane designation and pavement markings to assist the drivers at these locations.”

The new improved road will ultimately include off-street parking along the businesses, on-street parking in some locations, and turning lanes, said Pareek. The width of boulevards vary depending on the road-right of way widths that the city had to work with.

Motorists and pedestrians are reminded to obey all traffic signs/signals and drive safely around work crews.
