Saturday will be going to the dogs — literally.

Medicine Hat’s second annual Dogs in the Hat expo is running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kin Coulee band shell, and it will showcase all things dogs.

“We make the event dog-related because it’s mostly outside,” said organizer Elisha Mathis. “While we do have a couple cat vendors this year, the displays set up will be anything and everything dog related.

“We’ve got displays for vets, toys, rescues, boarding facilities, sports teams and a lot more.”

Mathis says on top of plenty of displays there will be multiple demonstrations throughout the afternoon.

“We’re hoping the Medicine Hat Police Service K9 unit will be there, but they’re on call so it’s tentative,” she said. “We’ll have the Search Dog Association, we have duck herding and we’ll have Poop Bingo returning this year — it was a really big draw last year.”

People are encouraged to bring their own dogs, but they need to follow some rules.

“Every dog needs to come and stay on a leash — there’s no exceptions,” said Mathis. “We want people to make a judgment call on their dogs, and if they’re aggressive we ask they’re left at home.”

The event is free and open to all ages.
