Cannabis educator Jeananne Laing will be at Ricky’s today giving an all-day workshop on the topic of cannabis as medicine.

“We’re trying to give people a place to learn fact from fiction within the cannabis world,” said organizer Pam Lehr. “(Laing) goes through a lot of information, and she will give opportunities for us to have question-and-answer sessions — it’s going to be a full seven-hour day of learning.”

Tickets for the event are $125 and some are still available. Those who complete the day will have 30 days to complete an online course and earn a certificate.

“What people can do after they do the course is take an online quiz,” said Lehr. “They’ll use the knowledge they got from the workshop, and assuming they pass the test, they’ll get a certificate of completion.

“It’s something you can put on your resume that shows you’ve taken and completed the course, and to show you have strong knowledge of the cannabis world.”

Lehr says there are still too many misconceptions surrounding medical cannabis use, and with a large cannabis production facility coming to Medicine Hat, it’s time to clear things up.

“When you open up Facebook and read some things people are saying, you can see that there’s still a lot of false information out there — and that needs to be cleared up,” she said. “A lot of people still have a problem with legalization, and may not see the benefits to cannabis being used medicinally.

“I feel like hosting this type of event is my way of helping out with clearing some misunderstandings.”

Lehr says she hopes to continue holding events based around cannabis in the future.

“We’re going to try to bring (Laing) back later in the year,” she said. “There will be more events going forward as well.”
