Medicine Hat News All of Medicine Hat is invited to attend the eighth annual “Community Celebration,” where a progress report on homelessness will be presented. The event is scheduled for Friday at the Esplanade Lobby, with doors opening at 10:30 a.m., the program running from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with lunch to follow. As part of the morning, the Medicine Hat Community Housing Society will launch the “Year 8 Progress Report on At Home in Medicine Hat – Our Plan to End Homelessness.” The keynote speaker for the event is Frank O’Dea. O’Dea is best known as the founder of The Second Cup, but as a young man was homeless and living on the streets, panhandling for nickels and dimes. He also has helped find other international businesses and not-for-profits, including Proshred Security, War Child Canada, Street Kids International and the Canadian Landmine Foundation. He has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada and two Canadian universities have awarded him honorary degrees. The event is free, with no RSVP required. 7
