A Medicine Hat woman received a 45-day jail sentence — considered time served — for stealing a package off a front doorway.
According to the agreed statement of facts read in at the Medicine Hat courthouse Friday, a local resident made an online purchase worth $250, and became concerned when the parcel hadn’t arrived.
Their residence had surveillance cameras, and in looking through footage, the homeowner found that the package had in fact been delivered at 10:45 a.m. on April 20, and later that day a woman walked up to the house and took the package.
This video also made its rounds around social media, as the homeowner posted images from it asking the public for assistance.
A statement was made to police, who recognized the woman in the video as the accused, Crystal Sackman, due to previous dealings they had with her.
Alongside stealing the package, Sackman had been under 24-hour house arrest, so pled guilty to that breach. Crown said she was cooperative with police and returned the stolen items.
Sackman also pled guilty and was fined $1,000 for a separate incident where police arrested her on an outstanding warning and found in her possession 3.4 grams of meth.
