The continuation of sewer and water line replacement in Riverside this spring will mean Finlay Bridge will be closed next week until mid-June, the city’s environmental utility department said Wednesday.

The work, to replace and enlarge sanitary and storm sewer, as well as water lines that date back 100 years, will also include road improvements.

The roadway on Finlay Bridge becomes Second Avenue on the northside of the South Saskatchewan River. As such, the north approach to the bridge will be closed to traffic when the intersection is under construction starting Monday.

Work along the entire block will be done in three progressive stages. They are all along Second Avenue, and include street blocks directly east of the intersections:

— From the bridge north to the intersection of Second Street, until mid-June;

— To the Third street intersection, from June 7 to late July;

— To Fourth Street intersection and beyond, August to mid-September.

All schedules are weather dependent and should allow for pedestrian access of sidewalks throughout, according to a release.
