Palliser Triangle Health Advisory Council has a new chairperson, Alberta Health Services announced Friday.

After a six-year term plus a two-year extension, Medicine Hat’s Ken Sauer is still on the council but no longer chair.

“It went as quickly as you can imagine,” Sauer told the News on Friday afternoon.

He says it will take a little adjustment to go from a leadership role to just being a member of the council but he hopes the relationship he has established with members of the community over the years will continue.

Reg Radke of Brooks, who has been serving on the council, is now chair.

“Our first goal is to help increase the profile and awareness of the Health Advisory Council,” said Radke. “I think that there’s great members on the council and we represent a lot of communities, and it will be our job to try to let the communities and public know that we exist and that we are a conduit, a way to communicate, with Alberta Health Services.”

Radke also serves on a variety of other boards and organizations including chair of the Brooks Housing Society, a volunteer/adviser with Global Village — an Alberta organization devoted to building and leveraging a diverse and inclusive community, according to an AHS press release. In the past he has served as director of regional stewardship with Medicine Hat College and on the Palliser Economic Partnership Board.

Blake Pedersen, former MLA for Medicine Hat, is now the vice chair. He also serves as president of the Medicine Hat Community Housing Society, is a public advisory member with THRIVE-Plan to End Poverty and is a public member of the Alberta Press Council.

Health advisory councils were established by AHS in 2009 to facilitate dialogue between the public and AHS. Each council has 10-15 volunteer members.

Other current members of PTHAC are: Rudi Brockmann and Heather Norris from Oyen, Marjorie Moncrieff from Bow Island, Patty Rooks from Seven Persons, and in Medicine Hat, Sara Joan Armour, Diane MacNaughton, Ajit Atwal, Paul Nederveen, Pat Dietrich and Stephanie Shaw.
