Medicine Hat News

The Daffodil Project will hold its first annual celebration of the blooming season May 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the planting location at Medicine Hat College.

It is a “Daffodil Drive” and everyone is welcome to attend. Parking is available at the Cultural Centre. Walk the short distance to the daffodils and marquee.

There will be refreshments, treats, an opportunity to hear all about The Daffodil Project’s goals for this year and beyond and get some photos of the flowers.

From its inception in 2015 the vision of the Daffodil Project has always been to celebrate when the flowers are in bloom. It is an opportunity for the community to embrace spring with a vision of golden daffodils. This year, because of the long, cold winter, the community is more than ready to celebrate spring and daffodils.

May 12 is also an opportunity to thank the community for its support of The Daffodil Project. Many individuals and businesses have made donations to purchase bulbs. Others have donated equipment or the use of equipment that has allowed the project to continue to operate with every cent of donations going to purchase bulbs.

The group will be taking cash and cheque donations on site that day and is hoping to raise enough to purchase and plant 40,000 bulbs this fall.

The following day is Mother’s Day and the group is hoping many will make donations in honour of their mothers. There will even be an opportunity to take a photo with a special daffodil frame that doubles as a Mother’s Day card. Many photos will be posted on the project’s website and Facebook.
