A new trial date has been set for a man accused of a kidnapping, robbery and assault that occurred Nov. 15, 2016.
Travis Douglas Seitz appeared before the Medicine Hat Courthouse Tuesday from the remand centre, with his defence counsel stating they plan to maintain not-guilty pleas for the charges and set down a new trial date of Aug. 3.
A trial had been set for the charges earlier, but Seitz was a no-show, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
It’s alleged that on Nov. 15, 2016 Seitz and a co-accused confronted and assaulted a man in his home, took him to a rural location where he was assaulted again, then returned the man to his residence where he was robbed.
Seitz’s co-accused for this incident faced the same charges — but in February pled down to unlawful confinement and assault, and received a sentence of 18 months — which was considered time served due to time already spent in custody.
Seitz also faces multiple charges over other incidents — including shopbreaking, mischief, obstruction, failure to stop his vehicle and multiple breaches.
Counsel said the next step will be taken on some of these charges at Seitz’s next court appearance on April 19.
