The Medicine Hat Drug Coalition was one of several organizations named by the province to receive a slice of $1.4 million for localized public awareness campaign on opioids.

The coalition will receive $35,000 for a campaign that will include community events, conversations and city-wide advertising.

According to the province, $1.4 million in grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 will be dispersed to 29 community organizations to fund projects that reduce stigma associated with opioid use, point people to where they can get treatment or overdose reversal kits, and educate family, friends and neighbours on how to potentially save a life.

The funding follows a recommendation by the Minister’s Opioid Emergency Response Commission that community public awareness initiatives focused on the opioid crisis be funded.
