Medicine Hat News

After a week of warm weather, it appeared Thursday as if things were going to get a lot colder for Medicine Hatters.

A special weather forecast predicted a large snowfall over Alberta, including Medicine Hat, but it was rescinded by mid afternoon.

Environment Canada issued a storm warning for a lot of the province, ranging from Red Deer to the around the U.S border.

According to the Environment Canada website, the City of Calgary is expected to get 10-20 centimetres of snow by Friday morning. Some places are expected to get more.

Some areas in and around higher terrain may receive 25 cm before the event is over.

People driving west toward Calgary can expect rapidly changing driving conditions, according to the website.

“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.”

Medicine Hat was spared from a large snowfall last weekend, with similar forecasts resulting in very little snow in the city.
