An appeal board will hear arguments against a proposal to build a new gravel pit south of Irvine later this month.

The Cypress County subdivision and appeal board will convene March 26 at the county offices in Dunmore.

The 12-acre site sits on private land near the Bull Trail road in the northern portion of Township 10 Range 2.

The developer, the Hutterite Brethren states in the original application that the gravel would be used for colony purposes and also marketed as ballast in wind farm development.

It states the nearest neighbouring residence in 600 metres from the site.

It was approved with standard conditions by the county’s municipal planning commission on Feb. 15. The land is currently zoned as A2 agriculture use and is a farm.
