Pi Day is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant ¹, observed on March 14 each year, but it is also a pleasant excuse to enjoy the kind of pies you eat.

Delicious wild blueberry pies were delivered to numerous locations on Wednesday morning courtesy of RE/MAX Medalta Real Estate. The lucky recipients were first responders including the RCMP, police, fire fighters, EMT, the emergency department at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, staff in the intensive care unit and the media because they help to get the message out when there is an emergency.

“We live in the community, work in the community and it is nice to give back. Support is what it is about,” said Kevin McGivery, real estate associate, who delivered several pies to the News.

McGivery says their office had brainstormed and decided on the gesture. The cost of the pies came from a fund that RE/MAX Medalta Real Estate associates contribute to monthly. They planned to deliver 80 pies by the end of the day.

March 14 was chosen for Pi Day since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three significant digits of ¹.
