Medicine Hat College’s board of governors has named its vice-president of administration and finance to the position of acting president.

“At the end of the day, part of my goal will be to make sure there’s a foundation for that next president so that when they get here, they have something they can rely on,” said Wayne Resch, who steps into the role following the announcement earlier this month that president Denise Henning’s final day with the college is March 16.

Resch has been with MHC since 2003 and has served in the role of vice-president administration and finance since 2014.

“The thing I’m going to focus on through this transition, is just making sure we don’t stop moving towards some of those (good) initiatives that have been put in place. I want to continue to grow those initiatives.

“We’ve got a lot of really really good people at this campus, and part of my role now will be to just make sure they can continue doing what they’re doing.”

He will continue with vice-president duties as well through the transition.

Resch begins his position as acting president on March 17. The college’s board of governors will commence the search for a new president immediately.
