The president of Medicine Hat College is retiring on March 16.
MHC board of governor’s chair Graham Kelly said that they and president Denise Henning had been discussing her future with the college for many months.
“She’s going to make a public statement either today or tomorrow,” said Kelly.
Henning joined MHC as its president in May 2014. Prior to that, she had been president and CEO of Northwest Community College in B.C.’s northwest region and with nine campuses to serve 34 communities.
Prior to her time at NWCC, Henning served as president and vice-chancellor of University College of the North, as well as other positions such as
executive director of international student success at the University of Regina and vice-president of academics and research at the First Nations University of Canada.
“In the next few days the board of governors will meet with the executive team to plan the transition,” said Kelly. “So I’ve asked them for their input as to what we should be doing going forward, and then the board of governors will set in motion the process to hire a full time president.”
One possibility put forward by the executive committee is one of them steps in to become acting president until a new person is put in place, said Kelly.
“I think that will be satisfactory, let’s put it that way. I think that’s going to be the best solution going forward,” Kelly said. “The college is running fine, and the education programs that our students are taking are still first rate, everybody’s doing their job.”
