Trial to begin in June for man charged with arson for house fire in the Flats

By Medicine Hat News on February 27, 2018.

The first two days for what is expected to be a five-day trial have been set for a man accused of starting a house fire that sent one woman to hospital.

Crown and defence counsel have been unable to find dates that work – instead opting to break the trial up into two- and three-day periods.

The first two days of the trial will be June 12 and 13, and the dates for continuing the trial will be selected then.

Chad Stadnicki, age 42, was charged with arson and assault causing bodily harm following a fire at a house on the 1100 block of Bridge Street in the Flats last October.

The residence sustained extensive damages that the fire department estimated at $100,000.

According to the police services commission reports, the 32-year-old victim sustained burns to half her body. She remains hospitalized in Calgary.

Stadnicki remains in custody at the Remand Centre, having not yet had a bail hearing
