Looks like only one seeking council seat in Forty Mile

With only one name coming forward to fill a County of Forty Mile council seat, Diane Harty will likely become the new representative for the Etzikom and Manyberries area.

Monday was nomination day in that county, where voters elected six councillors during last October’s province-wide municipal elections.

However, with no one standing for election in Division 2, the seat on the seven-member council was left vacant.

Diane Harty’s relationship to former Division 2 councillor Ron Harty, who did not seek re-election last fall, is not clear

As per regulations, Diane Harty’s nomination becomes official 24 hours after Monday’s noon filing deadline.

At that time it is expected she will win the position by acclamation and a tentatively scheduled byelection for March 26 will be cancelled.
